As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, youll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual rigor with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. The India Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager at Video-Sharing Website will be an expert on Video-Sharing Website’s products and business, and lead external communication on public policy priorities, developing and coordinating strategies relating to Video-Sharing Website’s issues and interests in the Indian and APAC political context. You will work and collaborate closely with the Government Affairs and Public Policy team in India and throughout the region. You will be knowledgeable about the policy environment affecting Video-Sharing Website’s business operations in the country, and share your knowledge with cross-functional stakeholders within Video-Sharing Website, to include Trust and Safety, Legal, PR and Marketing.
Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.
Develop and execute policy strategy that benefits users, the business and the wider web. Work cross-functionally to develop policy positions for review by Googles Policy, Legal, and Management teams.
Develop public policy campaigns and lead engagement with Indian policymakers and in other South Asian markets as necessary. Collaborate with the Public Policy, Communication and Marketing teams to implement Video-Sharing Website campaigns and activities to inform policymakers.
Engage directly with policy-makers, industry bodies and third parties at senior level policy. Support and communicate effectively with these clients in English and local languages.
Monitor and impact issues affecting Video-Sharing Website’s business operations and interests in India’s public policy context; appraise internal stakeholders on these developments and impact.
Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience.
14 years of experience working on technology policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, or relevant industry associations.
Experience working in fast-paced and dynamic professional environments; ability to exercise appropriate judgment. Excellent personal, collaborative, political, analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent communicator with effective interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to write and translate complex issues into simple language suitable for a range of audiences.
Familiarity with internet technologies, the policy, and political environments that surround them; ability to get up to speed quickly on complex technical and regulatory issues.
Team player who can work with a broad range of backgrounds and with different levels of experience. Ability to lead campaigns and to mentor members of the team.
